"Healthcare Boot Camp"

Because of the generous support of the Indiana State Department of Health, State Office of Rural Health and Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County, AHEC was able to sponsor high school and college students to participate in this Annual Meeting.

"Healthcare Boot Camp"
Workshop students were be paired into small groups and experienced various healthcare fields that are available through interactive learning opportunities.

Indiana Canine Assistance Network Command Station: Students will get the opportunity to work commands with Bodie the Golden Retriever – Darryl Clifton, Volunteer, Indiana Canine Assistance Network (ICAN)

Indiana University School of Dentistry Open Wide: Judith Chen, DDS, Associate Professor of Dentistry, Indiana University School of Dentistry
IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Punch an Orange: Students will perform one of many procedures that a family medicine doctor does; a real punch biopsy (only on an orange!) – Angela Myers, MD, PGY2, IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency
Mid America Clinical Laboratories What is That? Students will see what medical technologist see - real parasite infections under the microscope – Angie Wolff, MT(ASCP), Mid America Clinical Laboratories
National Institute for Fitness and Sport Wellness & Exercise:  Students will experience Yoga, Bosu balls, and overall fitness – Kara Tucker, Youth Development Coordinator & Brandy Myers, Youth Development Coordinator, National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS)
Pike Township Fire Department Saving Lives on the Go: Students will get the chance to meet the EMT's to ask questions and see inside a real ambulance – Pike Township Fire Department
Southwest Area Health Education Center Pick a Color: Students will organize food into the right food groups, portion sizes and estimate calories – Kristina Walker, Student Outreach Coordinator, Southwest Area Health Education Center
